Before heading out to the beach, check for current beach conditions to ensure you have a safe and fun experience. Beach flags are posted at all public beach areas and lifeguard towers. Please remember that the absence of beach flags does not constitute safe swimming conditions.
Know before you go! Checking beach conditions is easy! Before entering the water, please check current conditions in one of the following ways:
Yellow Flag means moderate surf and /or currents. - Medium Hazard
Purple Flag means to exercise caution - Marine Pests are present
Single Red Flag means high surf and/or strong current - High Hazard
Double Red Flag means it is illegal to enter the Gulf of Mexico within the corporate limits of either city when two red flags are displayed. - Water is Closed to the Public
Whether you’re going out on the water or taking a stroll along the beach, you should always be aware of the different beach flag warnings. The beach flag warning system is meant to protect you from potentially dangerous elements.
